Book List 3 - Goodreads.com and American Gods
So at first I tried to create a list of all the books I read on my first hub about book lists, but had to abandon after I found that only 100 rows are allowed. The process was also really slow with my screen freezing all the time. My second attempt was with google docs. I also had my screen freezing more and more when trying to scroll especially once I got over 200 on the list. Finally, someone suggested I join goodreads.com.
This is the easiest and quickest of all solutions and I am happy that 493 books are on my list so far. It is funny that I will remember the books out of nowhere. A high school classmate recommended the book American Gods by Neil Gaiman to me almost 10 years ago. I really liked this book and was happy that it included a paragraph about eating a sandwich in my hometown of Red Bud, Illinois and driving down Route 3 to Sparta! I had forgotten this book, another book by Neil Gaiman, and a book called Pattern Recognition that the same friend recommended to me.
Anyway, I suddenly remembered these books because American Gods has a funny scene where a guy would steal money from businesses that were trying to deposit money in the overnight deposit box. The guy would stand in front of the deposit box with an out of order sign and say he worked for the bank and just found out it was out of order, and he was standing by to collect the money and hand deliver to the bank. He was a nicely dressed man with a name tag, and everyone was tired after a long day of work and just handed him their money. He repeated this scam at several banks for easy money.
My husband was teaching me some martial arts techniques and we were talking about ATMs, and I remembered this overnight deposit box story because I am thinking this scam wouldn't work anymore now because the ATMs have cash counters so businesses must deposit their cash easily without hassle, or must have some other way to avoid using an overnight deposit box.
American Gods is an awesome book and features the walking dead and other supernatural characters. I definitely have to read this book again before I forget about it again!

It was only recently (within the last couple of years) that I read American Gods, though I've read a lot of Gaiman's work. I really enjoyed the story. It's quirky and well constructed, and good for some laughs.
It's hard not to enjoy a Gaiman book. He really packs a lot into each one, doesn't he?
